Mary Celestine Ternes

Mary Ternes (101) passed peacefully at her home on October 15. Her long life was dedicated to her family and her faith. She was a lifetime caregiver for her eight children, her mother who lived with the family for many years, her husband in his later years, and her sons during times of serious illness. She was born in Windsor and had many happy memories of times spent with family in London and Grand Bend, Ontario. She is preceded in death by her parents – William J. Loughlin and Georgina (James), her brothers William, Jerry, and Pat.

She married the love of her life, Donald J. Ternes, in 1947 and was the devoted mother of eight children – William (Emily), Mary Kay (Ken Godowski), Joanne, Donald Jr. (Janene), Fran, Paul, David (Kathy), and Jim. She was the proud Nana of five – Kevin, Steven, and Laura Godowski, Bill Fiedler and Barbara Roeder and Super Nana of five – Graham and Nora Godowski and Lillian, Elliana, and August Roeder.

Visitation will be at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, located at 20705 Mack, Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236 from 2:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, October 20. The Funeral Mass will held be at St. Lucy Catholic Church at 23401 Jefferson Ave, St. Clair Shores, 48080 at 10:00 am Saturday, October 21. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to S.O.A.R (Support Our Aging Religious) or St. Jude Hospital.
