

Matthew Schwartz passed away on April 24, 2010 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. He was born on July 23, 1916; son of Karl and Eva Schwartz. Matthew married Charlotte Patricia Gottschalk on April 15, 1939 in Capac, Michigan. He served his country proudly in Europe during WWII in the United States Army. Attaining the rank of Tech. Sergeant at the end of the war, Mr. Schwartz specialized in refurbishing damaged equipment. Mr. Schwartz was a hard working man. He retired from the Triangle Broach Company in 1981 after 45 years of work. Matthew was very crafty and could fix just about anything with his hands. His delicate precision enabled him to become a registered gemologist. He also utilized these skills as a watch maker. Mr. Schwartz loved boating and belonged to the Shores Boat Club. As a devout Christian, Matthew served as a council member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Eastpointe. Mr. Schwartz was proud of his sons Richard (Carolyn), and Thomas (Patricia). He adored his grandchildren David, Andrea (Steven) Zatkin, Robert, Alison (Mike) Kowalski, and Mark. He leaves behind his great granddaughters Kate and Mallory, and his sister Rose Watson. He was predeceased by his wife Charlotte, grandson Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz, and brothers Joseph and Pete Schwartz. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 1st at 10:00 am at A.H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. The Reverend Barton Beebe will officiate. The funeral will conclude with Military Honors. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 - 9:00 pm. Matthew will be interred next to his beloved Charlotte at Cadillac Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clinton Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
