Camping trips were a family event and he traveled all over his the United States with wife and children. While camping Norman also enjoyed fishing everywhere he could. Norman was known for his gardening ability; from flowers to vegetables he grew one of the largest gardens in Saint Clair Shores. The City Beautification Society even nominated his garden to be part of their walking garden tour! He was so good with plants that when he volunteered at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, they put him in charge of their flowers outside the church.
