Obit for Olga Daniel (1919-2016) Early on Palm Sunday morning March 20, 2016, Olga Beatrice Daniel passed away quietly in her sleep. She was 96 years old born October 11th in 1919 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania where she grew up with her older brother Dusan Marcis, and her 4 younger sisters, Ellen, Ruth, Esther, and Mildred. She graduated from Capitol University with a B.A. and after graduation joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. She served in the Philadelphia Naval Yard and gained the rank of Lieutenant JG. She left active duty in 1946 but continued in the Nasal Reserve until her discharge in 1954. Olga was married for 62 years to Rev. Theodore Daniel and was the proud mother of Theodore A. Daniel Jr. M.D. and grandmother of Sarah Ellen Daniel M.D. and Faith Elizabeth Daniel. In 1957, she and her husband took the call to serve the congregation of Outer Drive Faith Lutheran Church in northwest Detroit where they served for over 50 years. Olga had a strong involvement in many facets of the congregation including singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. She also participated in many Lutheran women's organizations in the metro Detroit area. Olga had many interests outside the church. She was an avid gardener, both tending her own flower gardens and also organizing the block of neighbors in planting gardens beautifying the communal boulevards in their Detroit neighborhood. She and her husband also enjoyed taking long driving tours throughout the U.S. and Canada and in their later years traveling extensively in Europe. Olga's greatest passion was her love of baseball and "her" Detroit Tigers. With cable TV in her later years she was able to watch almost every game despite her complaints of the late starts on the West Coast, and she had an abundance of opinions about the team and stats and performances of the players. To the end, she had a gleam in her eye, and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. A private family committal service will be held this week. Donations may be made in her memory to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St John Hospital & Medical Center in support of the wonderful work they perform. Donations may be mailed to St. John Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - St. John Hospital Foundation, 22101 Moross, MOB Suite 102, Detroit, MI 48236
