Peter Lesch, 91, passed away Dec. 30, 2017. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Anna (Tensch) Lesch, daughters Anne Lesch (Alan Bernstein) and Rosemarie (Lynn Boyd), grandchildren Lisa Marie Boyd and Derek Boyd. He was born in Molin, Yugoslavia to Franz Lesch and Marianna (Lafleur) Lesch. After settling in Austria and marrying, he emigrated to the United States with his wife and elder daughter in May, 1952.
He will be remembered for his wit and sense of humor, his work ethic and his many talents. As a young man in Europe he was an apprentice shoemaker and in addition to making custom and orthopedic shoes, he designed and made belts, wallets, and other leather goods as a hobby throughout his life. He especially delighted in making custom-designed shoes for his grandchildren when they were young. (As a prisoner of war in England during WWII, his shoe repair skills earned him favored status among his captors.) He retired after many years as a tool and die maker, where he worked on precision aircraft parts used on cruise missiles.
He believed in doing everything himself, and designed and built many of the features of the house and yard, including the basement renovation with fireplace, a concrete patio, brick tool shed and flower boxes, and leather furniture. He could also fix anything and was a perfectionist in everything he did. He loved his summer vegetable garden and flowers, making sausage, playing the accordian and painting landscapes in oil.
Peter was intelligent and determined and always put family first. Although he was unable to obtain a formal education for himself, he valued it highly and ensured that his children and grandchildren attended college. He was extremely generous with his family and helped in any way he could, both physically and financially.
He will be greatly missed.
