Ray and I played high school football together.  He was a buddy.  A friend.  He was a good person.  In his core there was only warmth and goodness. Though we have lost touch over the years, the DeFour family still holds such wonderful memories of Ray.  He was a good friend of Matt and Drew's at Our Lady Star of the Sea grade school.  Your entire family were such a support to us when our son Mark died; so we ache for your loss and know of the pain you all must be feeling.  Please know of our love, our condolences and our prayers.  We are embracing you all from afar.  May Ray rest in peace and may the God of all comfort wrap you all in His loving care.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Ray’s passing, and my heart goes out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. I had the privilege of knowing him as the talented author Jordan K. Nightsage, whose passion for storytelling shone brightly in every conversation. Ray’s enthusiasm for fantasy writing, especially his love for The Lord of the Rings and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, was infectious, and I cherished hearing about his creative journey, including his exciting transition toward incorporating AI into his work. His connection to C.S. Lewis’s stories reflected a deep appreciation for themes of hope and redemption, which he often wove into his own narratives.

Ray’s devotion to his children was evident in the way he spoke of them so often and with such pride. I learned that he poured his heart into writing a series of books for them, weaving stories of courage and love that reflected his deep care as a father. He may not have shared this with everyone, but I felt it was a beautiful testament to his character that deserves to be celebrated here:

I remember how excited Ray was about launching the Leo James series, which he discussed with such joy in an interview (shared in the Fantasy & Sci-Fi Focus group - link above). His creativity and world building were truly inspiring, and his stories will continue to touch the lives of those who read them. My thoughts are with his family, and I hope the love and light he shared through his words bring you some comfort in the days ahead.

Ray Jr was fun loving and a delight to have around. He and his parents would spend lively and lovely summer days with us at Harsens Island . Ray Jr would always be the first to pitch in and help out regardless of the task. He and his family were among our closest friends. The Metry family will dearly miss Ray Jr.

Dearest Ray and Lynn,   I will never forget Ray walking with Ray the 3rd and Gloria. The smiles on their faces showed how much they enjoyed being in his company He always spoke to me and brought the children over to pet my dog Sammy. I was proud of him when he told me about getting his MBA, knowing how much he loved the kids to better their life with him. He was so happy talking about it.  One day he asked me for my oldest son’s no. They graduated together and played  lacrosse together. Ray said he wanted to reconnect ! He had the kindness most gentle face! You were Blessed to have had him as he was to have had you! I was also Blessed to have to have known him!  Love hugs and prayers!
