
Rev. Robert E. Ehlers was born on March 8, 1928 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the only child to Herbert H. Ehlers and Zena M. Ehlers (nee) Mintken. He was baptized and confirmed on September 16, 1945 at Christ Ev. Lutheran at Grand Island, NB. He was joined in holy wedlock to Marilyn R. Kleinkauf on December 31, 1950 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church also at Grand Island, NB. In 1958 he began pastoral studies at Concordia Lutheran Seminary Springfield, IL vicaring at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran of Koburg, WI. He completed his studies at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, graduating in 1964. Robert Ehlers was ordained into the public ministry on July 5, 1964 at Christ Ev. Lutheran at Beatrice, NB where he served in his first parish. He also served at the following congregations: Hope Ev. Lutheran at Swartz Creek, MI; Mt. Sinai at Montrose, MI and St. Marks at Sterling Heights, MI. In 1996 he retired from the public ministry, residing together with his wife in Clinton Township, MI and attending Crown of Life Ev. Lutheran in Warren, MI. Recently he and his wife, Marilyn, moved to Vernon, CT and became members of Messiah Ev. Lutheran at South Windsor, CT. Rev. Robert E. Ehlers was called to his eternal home in heaven on October 2, 2009 at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 24 days after a brief bout with cancer. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; four sons and two daughters, Gerald & Suheyla Ehlers of Linden, VA; Gail and Jim Molkentin of Genesse Depot, WI; Rev. Timothy and Tama Ehlers of Vernon, CT; David Ehlers of Peoria, IL; Janice and Frank Ruperto of Coal Center, PA; Rev. John and Susan Ehlers of South St. Paul, MN; 26 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 7 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Rd. at Masonic, Warren. Christian burial services will be held at Crown of Life Ev. Lutheran at Warren, MI on Thursday, October 8 at 11am. Rev. Robert E. Ehlers' earthly remains will be laid to rest at Glen Eden East Cemetery of Macomb Township, MI. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to either Michigan Lutheran Seminary Scholarship Fund, or Crown of Life Lutheran Church Building Fund.
