Robert Francis Busch

Deacon Robert F. Busch, age 79, died peacefully at Wm. Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe on Sunday, August 25, 2013 after a short illness. Bob was born on April 1, 1934 in Detroit, the son of Francis and Monica Busch. He grew up on Detroit's eastside and graduated from St. Charles Catholic High School in 1952. Two weeks after graduation, Bob was hired at Uniroyal as a draftsman. He worked there for 39.6 years (specified on his retirement plaque) retiring in 1992 as a development engineer. In 1956 Robert married Phyllis Pawlak at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Detroit. In 1978 Bob started classes at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit to become a permanent deacon. On June 14, 1980 he was ordained at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Detroit by Cardinal John Deardon. His entire career as a deacon was spent at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. The diaconate became his second calling in life. He was actively involved at St. Joan and performed many marriages, baptisms and funerals during his tenure. In 1996 he suffered a stroke that affected his speech and limited his active participation during rehabilitation. Bob is survived by his wife, Phyllis; their three children, Debra M. Clayton, Susan C. Hobig (Kenneth) and David R. Busch (Katherine); their three grandchildren, Chelsey Clayton, Matthew Hobig and Anna Hobig; and his sister, Connie Fett (Rauol). Visitation for Deacon Busch will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake in St. Clair Shores from 1:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon until his funeral mass is celebrated at 7:00 o'clock Wednesday evening. Monsignor G. Michael Bugarin will be the celebrant. Interment will be private at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to either the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
