

Robert A. Crumley, age 84 died peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2008 at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe. He was born October 10, 1924 in Detroit. Robert attended Pershing High School in Detroit and left school to join the Army in 1943. He served in the European theatre attaining the rank of Sergeant. After his service to his country, he began working as a railroad conductor for the Detroit Terminal in Detroit. The railroad later became Conrail. He retired in 1980 after 35 years. Robert enjoyed travel and photography. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Bruce Post #1146 in St. Clair Shores, the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joan of Arc Ushers Club. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley. He leaves his son Robert A. Jr. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm Sunday and 2-9 pm Monday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods. A rosary service will be 7:00 pm Monday. A VFW Ritual service will be held at 8:00 pm Monday under auspices of Bruce Post #1146. His body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake, St. Clair Shores from 9:30 am Tuesday until time of mass at 10:00 am. Monsignor G. Michael Bugarin will officiate. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township with military honors.
