

Robert Werthman, age 90, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. He was the devoted husband of Dorothy (Rozmary) for 66 years, and a cherished father to Debra Vandenbussche (Chantal), Thomas (Shelley), Dennis (Laura), and Jean Leonard (Brian). Bob was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Olivia, Roger, Cecelia, Griffin, Grace, Ryan, Michael, Jason, and Robbie, and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jim (Nancy).
Born on November 9, 1935, to Cyrilla and Aloysius Werthman in Detroit, Michigan, Bob attended St. David’s Elementary, De La Salle High School, and the University of Detroit. He married the love of his life, Dorothy, and soon after enlisted in the Army. Bob and Dorothy moved to New Orleans, where he served in Army Intelligence before being deployed to Korea. Though his time in Korea was brief, he often spoke fondly of his experiences there.
Upon returning home to Harper Woods in 1961, Bob began a long and successful career in banking, retiring in 1998. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Dorothy, spending time with his grandchildren, and volunteering at Bon Secours/Beaumont Hospital. Bob was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions, and he loved golfing, bowling, movies, and playing pinochle.
A visitation will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores, MI 48080, on December 3, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, 1820 Mt. Elliott Street, Detroit, MI 48207.
