Steve, in my book, you will always be remembered as an all around great guy.  Anyone who has shared a laugh or two with you will now go on cherishing those memories, wishing there were more. May God bless you and may God bless your loving family.  Rest in peace my friend.

I first “met” Steve online in yahoo card games playing euchre (he was my card partner) It was random draw the first time we were paired up. I lived in Northern KY. He lived in Michigan. I had never been in Michigan in my life. We played online for 2 years always checking with each other to play as a team. I had never even thought about meeting someone online....isn’t how serial killers find you? Lol...or so I was told. One day I get a call from Steve. He is in Nashville on his way back to Michigan and wanted to stop by at the bus garage in downtown Cincinnati...could I pick him up? I knew what he looked like, he had NO CLUE what I looked like...and I wouldn’t share. I knew he was a tall skinny guy with a goatee and long dark hair. I was very heavy and completely embarrassed about my appearance. I was also almost 10 years older than him. I never thought he would give me the time of day...but again....he was probably a serial killer...so what difference did it make, yeah? :c) I was recently divorced and the road there had been a VERY BAD ONE. The day he was getting in town, I had to pick up my cat from the vet first on the way to get him. At this point....I had no clue that Steve hated cats. So cat in tow, wrapped in a bath towel she had been spayed and declawed earlier that day...I waited in the bus station for his bus to arrive. I’m looking for him....wondering if he is going to take one look and run..after looking at me. He walks right up and asks “are you Melannie?” I smiled and said “how did you know?” He says”you are the only person carrying a frigging cat in a towel..” Hmmm. We walk out to my car, and when we got there he opens his duffel bag and pulls out a long stem....with no flower head on it. He reaches down in his bag and finds a red rose head broken off.  He gets just a little flustered and says “wait a minute I got something else.” He pulls out a artificial red rose flashlight and as he goes to hand it to me....the head falls off that too.” We just laughed. We go out to eat for dinner and Steve asks to take my 11 year old daughter with us. I was Impressed...so was she. We started as friends that day.....and for the next 10 years, other than us going together to Michigan to meet his family for holidays and other occasions...he lived here in Ky. I remember when Steve was telling me how he got the middle name “Floyd”. He said “yeah, my parents were really cool hippies and named me after Pink Floyd.” Until I went to Michigan and met “grampa Floyd” ....Steve must have thought he died and went to heaven when he met me. Here was someone who had never heard his wild stories and tales....and I believed every single one...hook line and sinker he told me....for the LONGEST time. And every time he told the story again and again.....it grew legs and took off. That was just the beginning of so many crazy and fun stories that I can just replay over and over and remember so much happiness. It takes 2 people to either make or break a relationship, and I think we both did our share over the years. We were together almost 10 years...before deciding that we were much better friends apart than we ever were married. Steve truly had a good heart, and I know that no one EVER stood up for me the ways that he did over the years. He supported me when I said I wanted to try gastric bypass surgery. He read labels, cooked the food the way I needed it to be fixed...and in the end After losing 179 lbs....he told me how proud I made him. But....he had already accepted me at 300 lbs, sight unseen....when I couldn’t even accept myself. I know when we finally decided that we were better apart.....we still stayed in touch over the years....checking on each other. I had last talked to him a week or so before he died. He has sent me a picture of him and Mat....on Mat’s wedding day. He had a nice suit...haircut and brand spanking new teeth. I hadn’t seen that beautiful smile for a long time. I had missed it. He couldn’t wait for me to say something. I told him he looked very handsome...as did Mat. I was so thankful that he was able to share in Mat and Nicole’s wedding day. I know how happy he was that day. In the end you can save the good and positive memories, the laughs and fun, or you can dwell on only the negative and waste some of the best years of your life.  “Bud” was “our child” and it destroyed us both to lose him. I truly think Bud saved Steve in more ways than one....and they were good for each other.  I know Steve was always so proud of his family....especially his sons. He couldn’t Wait for me to meet them for the first time. I felt very privileged to have been a part of your family for so many years. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. My heart is really hurting as well....I think I am going to focus on some of the fun times we had. Steve was definitely not a person who will be easily forgotten. I never met Steve in person, but came to know him through Twitter of all places. A few years back, he began trolling my political tweets, and his insults were so funny (and happy-go-lucky) that I couldn't help but engage him (and continue do so for a couple of years to come). We shared a lot of online laughs, and I'll truly miss our bantering. He was a fun guy who will be missed, and my prayers go out to the West family.

In loving memory of Steven Floyd West, My fondest memory of you my dear cousin is when you came up north 19 years ago and went fishing at the cabin. You chased the girls around with the fish scales. They still remember that to this day.  I will also never forget how you loved to aggravate me on Face Book through private messages. It always made me smile since that was your way of letting me know you cared. Rest in peace my dear cousin. I love you. Someone so special will not be forgotten.   All my love to the family, sorry I could not be there with all of you during this time. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers *hugs*

Steve, you will be so deeply missed Cuz. Such a nut, always up for a laugh. You were a fun loving fellow. I’m so sorry your life has been cut so short. We don’t always understand God’s plan, but there is a master plan, He must have needed a pro at needling & aggravating up there, so he came to the expert. RIP dear Cuz.

Tho' not a blood relative, I loved when he called me Aunt Irene!!  ❤ And loved his hugs!

😭😭😭😭 even though we may not have been blood you were always considered family I would never admit it to you, but probs the only one around that could come close to being my rival in the smart ass department.  😝 I will miss his endless picking on me more than anyone could know.  RIP loved you dearly and probs should have told you more often than I did. 💔 gone much too young, but never forgotten

I will miss all your post on Fb as they were usually what I saw first.  Prayers to your Mom and Joe as I can only imagine how hard this is for them.
