Born Sept. 16, 1953, Susan was the eldest child of Maryann and Chester Bandy, both now deceased. Susie was a nurturer from the start. She was known for her gentle nature and giving above and beyond in every situation — which, as she would always say, “is from my heart.” Susie truly lived by heart in all of her actions. She gave much of herself and made sure everyone she knew was taken care of. Susie was known to be a "girly girl" and had a love of all thing’s beauty and fashion.
Susie grew up on the east side and spent her whole life there. She wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. At age 16, she began working for George Panourgias at Mack 7 Restaurant, where she eventually met the love of her life, Grosse Pointe Farms police officer Donald Dewey, to whom she was married for 43 years before his passing June 25, 2025.
Susie also worked in retail and cared for her now adult nephews and step-grandkids until they became school aged. During this time, she continued to work at Mack 7 through 2018. Following her retirement from Mack 7, Susie dedicated her life to caring for her niece, Lively, who kept both her and Don active in their final years. The three of them were inseparable and found so much joy in all the time they had together.
Susie was predeceased by her husband, Donald Dewey; mother, Maryann Bandy; father, Chester Bandy; daughter, Catherine Beck; uncle, Jerome Boik; and aunt, Sally Boik.
She leaves behind her brothers, William Bandy and John Bandy (Cheryl); Nephews, Shaun Bandy (Ameera) and Jason Bandy (Victoria); Great Grandnieces, Lively and Summer. Don and Susan also leave behind Don’s Children, Barbara (Roger), Deborah (Brett) and Kevin; Grandchildren, Samantha, Sarah, Heather, Amy and Aaron; Great Grandson, Oliver.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 3, at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack, Grosse Pointe Woods. A memorial service to honor both Susan and Donald will be held at Noon and following the service there will be a voluntary reading of the Rosary at 1 p.m. Susan will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on Monday, January 5.
