It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of Sybil Louise Thomas, 84, of Grosse Pointe Woods, announces her peaceful transition into Heaven on December 16, 2020, in her home surrounded by her family.Â
She is survived by her beloved husband Henry Thomas Jr., to whom she was married for 62 joy-filled years.  Treasured mother of Suzanne (Jim) McCuish, Lisa (David) Hill, and Dr. Julie (Michael Enyeart) Thomas. Sybil was the cherished Mimi to her grandchildren Mackenzie (23), Henry (20) and James Jr. (20). They were the pride and joy of her life, and they adore her as much as she adored them. Sybil was the dear sister of Justine (the late Keith) Miller of Harbor Springs and the late Ross Enkelmann.Â
She was born to Henry and Esther Enkelmann in Detroit on February 14, 1936 – their firstborn child and Valentine baby. Sybil graduated from Denby High School in 1954.Â
As a gifted musician, Sybil played the piano throughout her life and was able to immediately play any song she heard. She was a member of the choir at First English Lutheran Church for 39 years, and instilled her love of music in her daughters and grandchildren.
Sybil enjoyed spending time with her family at their summer home on Lake Huron, built in the 1950s by Henry, where many cherished memories and traditions were created. Every time family was together, she made it into a special occasion, and celebrated by making elaborate feasts.
Sybil and Henry traveled to The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island every summer for 40 years. They shared that love by hosting numerous family vacations at the Masco Cottage at The Grand.Â
Sybil had the ability to make everyone, even strangers, feel special with her kind and generous ways. She treated strangers as friends, and her friends as family. She was adored, loved and will surely be missed by all who knew her.
Sybil’s unwavering faith gave her the sure and certain hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ.Â
A private memorial service will be held for family. Arrangements are entrusted to A.H. Peters Funeral Home.
