

Tom “Bomber” Sheppard, son of John and Mary Ellen Sheppard, passed away at the age of 77 on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. He was born on August 18, 1947, and was the second oldest of 9 children. Tom was also a long-time resident of Detroit, living only a few miles away from his childhood home.
Tom had a deep love for the Marine Corps. He served in the Vietnam War, and eventually was honorably discharged in February of 1970. He also was a decorated veteran, earning himself a Rifle Marksman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star.
Tom also loved Notre Dame football. He had lifelong friendships that date back to childhood, and also made new friendships throughout the course of his life. He cherished those friends, often meeting with them over coffee and donuts, lunches, golf, or playing cards at the Senior Center.
A devout Catholic, Tom was a longtime parishioner at St. Joan of Arc, where he attended weekly mass and served as an usher. His faith was a big part of his life, and guided his actions every day.
Tom's cherished siblings are; Anne (Mike) Host, the late John (Mary) Sheppard, Jane (Meade) Farmer, Pat Reichling, Mary Kay Sheppard, Maureen (Mick) Clayton, Jim (Barb) Sheppard, and the late Marnie “Babe” Sheppard. He’s also survived by many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Tom’s life was filled with generosity, kindness, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A visitation for Tom will be held Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan 48236. An instate will occur Monday, May 5, 2025 at 9:30 AM with the funeral mass to begin at 10:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack Ave, St Clair Shores, MI 48080.
