Virginia Martin Schnurr

Virginia Martin Schnurr passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Family and friends had just celebrated her 90th birthday. As sad as it is to have her leave us, we all will always remember her love and close companionship. She was born on June 21, 1928 in Washington, DC and ever since was quick to let folks know her birthday was the longest day of the year. Her light will shine even longer now. She left to be reunited with her husband, Martin, who passed away in 2009. She is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was dedicated to family and friends, her friends being a part of her chosen family. From a rich history of cousins, aunts and uncles in Rhode River, Maryland to a full life in Grosse Pointe, Michigan she was always on the go with sports, charity and family events. In later years she tirelessly nursed Martin through Alzheimers and made sure she was a part of every birthday, wedding, and holiday. Her great-grandchildren will forever remember her wry wit and joy of celebration. She loved bridge, was a terror at bingo and loved meeting as many people as was humanly possible. There were so many fun times with family and friends they would fill volumes. Humor was a hallmark of her home. Her life of dedicated friendship, loving marriage and honor of family will be the lessons we take into the future. The night of her 90th birthday party we played songs by the Avett Brothers singing along as she always did. One of their lines will stay in memory , Always remember, there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name. We will miss you Grandma Doots, and never forget you!! A memorial service will be held at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mi at 1pm on Monday, July 9th.
