
Walter W. Saunders Jr., age 86, of Clinton Township went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. He was born in Ranger, West Virginia on July 9, 1934 to Walter Sr. and Ethel (nee: Elliot) Saunders. He was one of eight children.
Walter spent his childhood years in West Virginia before he decided to travel to Michigan for a better future. Shortly after his arrival in Michigan, Walter decided to enlist in the United States Army. Once he had served in the Army; Walter returned to Michigan and worked for General Motors as a skilled tradesman.Walter had a strong faith in God, and was a devoted member of Warren Woods Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.Â
He was an avid hunter who (with a close group of hunting buddies) would always take a two week deer hunting trip. Walter, in the summer months, would cultivate and tend to his plentiful garden and orchard. He was great communicator, who had a gift of storytelling and/ or delivering a one liner joke. He had a great way with connecting with people and rarely met a stranger .
He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Gale (Dennis), and Nora Brown (Todd); his four grandchildren, Chelsey, Kayla, Nicholas, and Joey; and one great grandchild, Hailey. He is also survived by numerous extended family and close friends. Aside from his loving parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 59 years, Nancy; and his 7 siblings.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM in A.H. Peters Funeral Home of Warren (32000 Schoenherr Rd, Warren; at the corner of Masonic).
A funeral service for Walter will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 12:00 PM in Warren Woods Baptist Church (14251 East 12 Mile Rd, Warren MI 48088), with instate to begin after 11:00am. Burial to follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery.
