

Walter Walker passed away on January 17, 2014 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. He was born on June 7, 1936 in Sullivan, Illinois; son of Walter and Pearl (nee Enloe) Walker. Walt married Joyce Tweedie on January 9th, 1965 at Henderson Memorial Methodist Church in Detroit with Pastor John Mulder officiating. The young couple first lived in an apartment on Greenfield in Detroit and then on Lindsay Street in Detroit. They moved to Grosse Pointe Woods in 1974 where they raised their family. Walt was a well respected Nurse Anesthetist in the community He worked for most of his career at Saratoga Hospital. When Saratoga Hospital closed, Walt continued his career at St. John North East and eventually retired from the Kresge Eye Center a few years ago. He was a wonderful person with great people skills. His bedside manner was appreciated by his patients. Mr. Walker enjoyed photography and was a member of the Grosse Pointe Camera Club. He also liked to sky dive and kept an impeccable garden. Walt was very devout to his faith. He was an Elder at Knox Presbyterian Church and would volunteer for just about anything at the Church. He loved the outdoors where he could find and collect arrowheads. His collection of arrowheads was donated and is on display at Metro Beach's Nature Center. He coached soccer for the Grosse Pointe Soccer Association. Mr. Walker is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Joyce. He was proud of his daughter Amy Sage (Bob) and son Paul (Beth). He adored his grandchildren Daniel, Jonathan, David, Abigail, and Emily. He leaves behind his siblings Charleen, Peggy, Nadine, John, and Jim. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. He will lie instate on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral at 11:00 am at Knox Presbyterian Church, 25700 Crocker Rd., Harrison Twp. The reverend Dr. Douglas Graham will officiate. Walter will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp. Memorial contributions may be made in Walter's name to Knox Presbyterian Church.
