

Bill Elliott was born in Detroit on July 19, 1929, the son of Stacy Wendell Elliott and Mary Leona Elliott (nee. Abraham). Bill peacefully passed away on Saturday April 20, 2019 at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit with his family by his side. Bill is predeceased by his beloved wife Merle, who passed away in 2004. He is survived by his loving daughter Jane (Jim) Walling. Bill was the doting grandfather of Michelle (Russ) Pease, Nichol (Tim) Bruno, Andrew Schroeder, Brad (Emily) Walling, Meredith (A.J.) Pipas and the loving great-grandfather of Alexis, Hunter, Cayden, Kyren, Owen, Reid, and Rosie. Special friend to Sue Simmons and appreciation to her family. Predeceased by brother Stacy Lee Elliott. Bill was an accomplished man who worked hard to achieve his visions. Bill received his B.B.A. from the University of Detroit with a Major in Accounting and a minor in economics. Bills past work experience has been with Jennings & Jewell, CPA; General Motors and Field Agent for the Michigan Department of Revenue. Then, soon after, established his accounting firm as senior partner in Elliott, Elliott & Co., a firm devoted to accounting, taxes and management services for 50 years. After his retirement he devoted time to his independent management consulting service. Bill was also a member of several professional organizations that include: The National Society of Accountants, the National Society of Tax Professionals; and the Independent Accountants Association of Michigan (for which he is a Past President) and served as their Macomb Chapter Chairman / Director many times. He lectured extensively throughout Michigan on accounting and tax matters. Throughout his life, Bill reached a multitude of enviable achievements: Honored as I.A.A.M.s Accountant of the year in 1972; a lifetime member of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, International and the Sigma Nu Phi Fraternity; member of the Grosse Pointe Kiwanis Club and had served as their President; a lifetime member of the U.S. Navy League; served on the University of Detroit's Estate Planning and Speaking Council and as an Accredited Business Accountant / Enrolled Agent, authorized to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. He wrote many articles for Trade Journals and was Guest Speaker for several years on The Steve Gramzy show WXYT and the German-American WMZK shows with tax tips. He served as Past Director/ Treasurer of the Eastpointe Chamber of Commerce and as Director / Treasurer of East Detroit Historical Society. Served as Past President for Pointe Park Homeowners Association. Bill had several hobbies, but his favorites were basketball, swimming, pistol shooting, boating, and Judo. Funeral service 10 am Wednesday April 24, at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Funeral service will conclude with military honors.
