William "Guy" Cornett

Mr. William Guy Cornett, age 84 of Sterling Heights, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Guy was born in Detroit, MI to Henry and Mildred Cornett. He was a graduate of Cass Tech High School in Detroit. He went on to a long career with General Motors, interrupting it to serve as a radio operator in the US Air Force during the Korean War. While overseas, he met Marilyn Merk, who was teaching children of servicemen on US military bases. They married in 1954, and their first child, Jan, was born in Morocco. Shortly after that he was honorably discharged and they returned to Detroit. Bruce and Joyce were born while the family lived in St. Clair Shores, and the family lived for 16 years in Shelby Township, until Marilyn passed in 1981. Guy married Alice Anderlite, a longtime friend of the family, and he and Alice brought two families together for a 36 year journey, including Alices children Lee, Lynne and Larry, and their lifelong friends Jan, Bruce and Joyce. The kids never lived all together under the same roof, but have enjoyed the strong bonds of a loving family. Guy enjoyed passions for photography, high fidelity audio systems, camping/RVing, and served many years and in many roles in his church, in the Boy Scouts of America, and in the Free and Accepted Masons. Guy is survived by his wife Alice, children/stepchildren Joyce Gates, Bruce (Sally) Cornett, Jan Cornett, Lynne (Ken) Szymanski, Lee (Anita) Anderlite, and by 10 grandchildren and spouses, and 5 great-grandchildren. Guys family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on Saturday, January 6th from 10:00 AM until time of service 11:00 AM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic (13-1/2 Mile) in Warren, MI.
