William R. "Bill" Kiefer, age 90, passed on to his eternal home December 3, 2016. He was one of ten children of German and Welsh heritage, born in Detroit to Edgar and Leta (Walmsley) Kiefer. In his early years he attended Visitation Grade School and University of Detroit Jesuit High School. Bill's earliest jobs included driving mail trucks and serving as a busboy and steward aboard the S. S. South American. He was drafted just prior to the end of WWII and assigned to the U.S. Army Tank Corps before being shipped off to Okinawa, Japan to function as part of the occupation forces in the Army's finance division. Following the War he returned to school and graduated with a BA from the University of Detroit. He went on to work as an accountant with Ford Motor Co., Packard Motors, and Chrysler Corp. (defense division) which was later sold to General Dynamics Land Systems which he retired from in 1992. A devout Catholic gentleman, he married his faith-filled and loving wife Marilyn "Peaches" on August 22, 1964. They shared traditional religious values and a love for one another for 53 wonderful years. Bill had no interest in joining clubs, his real interest was always family. He enjoyed boating, traveling, classic movies, a bit of golf and bicycling but what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family and his siblings. He was a quiet and humble man, with rosy cheeks and a warm smile. He was easily choked up with emotions and he loved his children with all his heart. He died as he lived with all the blessings of God. Bill is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn, his children Michael (Ruthie), Thomas (Sharon), Kelly (Timm) Appleton, Karin (JP) Hogan, and his loving grandchildren Emily, Mitchell, Sarah, Madeline, Jessica, Amanda and Julia. Family will begin receiving guests after 11:15 am Friday. Instate 11:30 am until time of Mass 12:00 pm at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores.
