Phyllis Dawn Conant, age 100, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at her home. Born to Frank and Ida Quick on August 27, 1924, in a family of 16 siblings, Phyllis was the youngest and last surviving member of her large family. She was adopted and lovingly raised by her older sister, Margaret Gross (Quick), and her husband, Ray E. Gross.
Phyllis is survived by her younger brother, Ray E. Gross II (Karen), and his son, Ryan E. Gross, along with Ryan’s sons, Riley and William. Phyllis was the proud mother of three children: Dawn E. (Conant) Martin (Gregory), Robert M. Conant Jr. (Glenna) and Scott A. Conant (Ma Rose) as well as four grandchildren—Laura Gladden (Eric), Lisa Pullen (Randall), Matthew Martin and Michael Martin (Holly). Her legacy also lives on through ten great-grandchildren: Alaina Gladden, Greg Gladden, Kathryn Gladden, Christopher Gladden, Oliver Pullen, Sidney Pullen-Hayes (Brendan), Eva Pullen, McKenna Martin, Mollie Martin, Maeve Martin, and one great-great-grandchild, Rinley Pullen-Hayes.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert M. Conant, Sr., her son, Robert M. Conant, Jr., her son-in-law, Gregory A. Martin (husband of Dawn Martin), and daughter-in-law, Glenna Conant (wife of Robert Conant, Jr.).
Phyllis was known for her nurturing spirit, which shone brightly throughout her life. As a newborn nursery nurse, she cared deeply for new mothers and their babies, a role that brought her immense joy. She was especially close with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing the time she spent with them. Her love for family was always at the center of her heart.
A devout follower of Jesus, Phyllis found great comfort in her faith and lived a life full of grace. She attended church regularly until she became homebound, where she continued to find strength and peace in her relationship with Jesus.
Her legacy of love, devotion, perseverance, kindness and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Phyllis will be deeply missed, but her memory will be treasured by her family and all who had the privilege of her presence.
