Susan Marie Tope

On Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, Susan M. Tope, joined her savior. Born on November 25, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio to a large family, being the 6th of 15 children and then lovingly raised her family in Grove City, Ohio. Though her body was frail and her mind was tired, her spirit was full of love and stubbornness. She lived on her terms and was happy to leave when the Lord called her into His eternal care. Sue passed away peacefully during her afternoon nap to join her loved ones that preceded her. She was known to always bring a chuckle to a moment of extreme seriousness. Up until the end her positive outlook and sense of humor remained with her.

Sue graduated in 1972 from Franklin Heights High School. She enjoyed school so much that she returned to work for Southwestern City Schools for 30 years, retiring in 2017. She proudly served as the union president for many of those years.

Though many of her proudest moments involved those spent with her family, she was always happy to share moments with her best friend at the Hollywood Casino.

She was preceded in death by her beloved ex-husband of 27 years, Earl "Jim" Tope; parents, William and Ruth Sexton, brothers- Michael (Betty) Sexton, Joseph Sexton, John Sexton, "Billy" Sexton, sisters- Ruth Ann Pressley, Patricia Martin, Debby Cline, Diane (Jimmy) Whitaker, Denise Hartley. Son in law, Paul Brunty Jr. Niece, Heather Hill, Nephew, Douglas Wahrer.

Sue is survived by her loving children: Melinda Brunty (Tony), Angie Tope and James (Danielle) Tope– and her grandchildren: Tyler (Bridget) Tope, Shelby Tope, Ryan Brunty (Maddie), Myles Tope, beloved pets- Buddy, BooBoo and Barley, and her extremely loyal best friend and cheesypoof dealer, Shena Dobbs. Brothers- James Sexton, David (Sandy) Sexton, Sisters- Karen Lockwood, Janice Wahrer, Mary Bowen. Sister-in-law, Patricia Sexton, Angela Wolfe, Brother in laws, Bill Pollitt, Cecil Cave. Numerous nieces and nephews- Shelly, Todd, Jackie, Bobby, Jenifer, Joey, Laura, Colleen, Kristy, Billy, James Junior, Crystal, Rachel, Kimberly, Natalie, Jessica Moody, Jodi, Julie, Jennifer, Jessica, James Bowen, Mary Ann, Nicole. Many loved great nieces and great nephews. Countless friends and the incredible care team at London Health and Rehab and Doctors West Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Murnane and Dr. Burton.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Schoedinger Grove City, 4242 Hoover Rd., Grove City, Ohio 43123. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday. Interment Grove City Cemetery – East.

We will forever adore, love and remember you –And, in the famous words of Elvis– always knowing that you did it "MY WAY". In celebration of Sue, feel free to wear your favorite Elvis or Hollywood Casino attire to her services.
