Melba Walker Fussell, 80, of Nederland, died peacefully after two and a half years with pancreatic cancer, Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Harbor Hospice House, Beaumont. A native and lifelong resident of the area, she was born on April 3, 1934, in Port Arthur, to Zoe Trahan and George Flannigan Walker.
Melba retired as a secretary after thirty-one years at PD Glycol. She was very active at the First Christian Church in Port Arthur and enjoyed playing dominoes with her church friends. She graduated from Bishop Byrne High School in 1951, where she was a Colleen. Melba will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-eight years, George Fussell of Nederland; daughter, Becky Fussell of Port Neches; son, Louis Fussell and his wife, Lorraine, of Deer Park; and grandchildren, Will and Samantha Fussell. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jan Alexander, Beverly Harper, Myra Burns, the staff of the Mamie McFaddin Ward Cancer Center, and the staff of Harbor Hospice House for their special care of Melba.
A gathering of Mrs. Fussell’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2014, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2014, at Broussard’s, Nederland, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Fussell’s memory to First Christian Church, 5856 9th Avenue, Port Arthur, Texas 77642.
