Al is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Ian, Amanda, and Matthew (Kimberly); and his grandson, Nathan. He is also survived by his sister, Penny (Herbert), who lives in Germany. Additionally, he leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Barb (Mike), Paulette, and Debbie; his brothers-in-law, Don (Deb) and Ron (Geraldine); and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Germany, Al moved to Canada at the age of eight. He grew up in Stratford, Ontario, and attended Queen’s University in Kingston before settling in Guelph to begin his career as a teacher. It was in Guelph that Al met the love of his life, Kathy. The two were married in 1976, beginning a partnership of 50 years.
Al was a man of simple pleasures in his retirement. He was often seen riding his bike through the local trails and streets. An avid photographer, he delighted in capturing images of nature, especially wildflowers and birds. Above all, Al enjoyed caring for his yard and flowers, relaxing on his porch and saying hello to the neighbours, both human and canine.
Al will be missed.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19th, at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St N, in Guelph from 12:30-1:30 PM. A memorial service will immediately take place in the funeral home chapel at 1:30 PM, with a short reception to follow.
In memory of Al, donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Health Centre Stroke Rehabilitation. Donations and condolences can be made on Al's memorial page at www.gilbertmacintyreandson-dublin.com
