Born on September 22, 1938 in Hamburg, Germany, Barbara dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband of 64 years, Harry, and their two children. Barbara's greatest joy came from spending time with her family including her parents and sisters’ families. She loved cottage time which she (we) shared with her sister, Ursula and her family. Cottage time also allowed her many visits to her parents’ home nearby on the Bonnechere River in the Ottawa Valley. Barbara’s baking and cooking skills were well enjoyed by all. Black forest tortes, chocolate cream pies, lemon cupcakes and the ever-present bundt cake on the kitchen counter are well remembered. For Christmas, her beef roladen and red cabbage were always a hit and started off Christmas Eve festivities. Barbara’s love for nurturing things was evident in her beautiful garden, which she tended faithfully. She loved being outdoors. Long walks, swimming, clearing brush at her father’s property, picking blueberries in the Laurentian hills.Barbara was also a faithful church member who taught Sunday school, attended Bible studies and sang in the choir. She is survived by her children Susan and Norman, 6 grandchildren Calvin, Clare, Cassel, Hayden, Elena, Noah and one great granddaughter Hesper May.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 18th at Gilbert and MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 252 Dublin St. North, Guelph. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local food bank.
