Dorothy Verna Hastings

Born in Timmins, Ontario to the late Michael and Veronica Coulis

Beloved wife of the late David E Hastings, dear mother to David and Darren(Pattie) and proud Dodie to DJ. Sister to the late Baldwin Coulis, Lillian Coulis and Shirley Anderson.

She was an Aunt, a cousin, and a friend to so many.

In her 87th year Dot remained active in her community and working until her final day.

She ran the Elora Village Inn for many years and often spoke of those days as some of the best of her life.

Her interest in fine furniture, antiques, and art led her to open the acclaimed Galleries La Finesse in downtown Guelph, where she has worked for over 35 years.

She is known by many people in the Guelph community as an antiques expert.

She volunteered for many years at Sick Kids Hospital and found great joy in bringing smiles to suffering children.

She loved animals and nature and her country home on the hill was one of her most cherished treasures.

Anyone who knew Dot will tell you that she was as tough as a nail.

She was a strong, resilient woman and she had a presence when she entered a room.

However, there was another side to her that many people don't know.

She was kind, compassionate, and cared deeply for humanity.

She donated to countless charities, local programs, and women in crisis. Thoughtfulness came naturally to her.

She had a desire to help others in need and she will be greatly missed by those touched by her generosity.

Her passion for life, family and her friends will be greatly missed by so many. She always said her motto was,

“Live to inspire” and that she did.

A cremation has taken place, and the family invites you for visitation at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 2–5 p.m. Private Entombment of ashes at the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers Donations to Hospice of Wellington would be appreciated by family.
