SMART, Douglas James At his residence, Guelph, on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Douglas J. Smart, age 83 years, beloved husband of Teresa G. (McKeown) Smart for 59 years. Dear father of Jeffrey and his wife Mickey, and Andrew and his wife Rosemary Danielli, all of Guelph. Loved Poppie of Graeme; Jordan; Devin; Erin (Phil); Tyler; Simon and Dana. Dear brother of Sandy and his late wife Shirley; George and his wife Norma all of Ottawa and Don and his wife Charlotte of Newmarket. Dear brother-in-law of Alice McKeown; Ralph and Pauline McKeown; late Jack Proderick and his wife Patricia all of Kingston; Joe and his wife Micheline McKeown of Brockville and the late Hugo and the late Marion McKenna and the late Jack and the late Faye McKeown. Doug was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, graduating from Queen's University in 1948 and moved to Guelph in 1953 to work as an electrical engineer for G.E. Canada. Doug was an avid curler; golfer and baseball player. He was also a past president of the Guelph Curling Club. He loved to travel and in later years enjoyed his time sitting on his deck overlooking Lake Ontario. Friends will be received at the Gilbert Maclntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph (Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.) where a private family service will be held followed by cremation.
