Elsa Tonin

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Elsa Tonin (nee Sponga) on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Hospice Wellington, age 90 years. Beloved wife of the late Giuseppe Tonin (November 22, 1990). Cherished mother of Luisa (Ron) Burke, Linda (Rick) Melancon, Gracie (Ken) Hasson and Paul Tonin all of Guelph. Loving Nonna of Nicole (Chris), Jenna (Rick), Samantha (Cory), Kevin (Sarah), Krysta, Breanna (Ryan), Kenny, Becky, Joey and Bisnonna of Taylor, Madisyn, Isabella, Jax, Colton, Wyatt, Gabriella, Mckenna, Travis and Mya. Elsa is survived by her sisters Rosina, Lilliana, Maria (Ken), her brother Angelo (Amy), her sister-in-laws Teresina, Cecilia, Teresina, Rita, Bruna, Barb and brother-in-law Rugero. Elsa will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends.

Predeceased by her parents Antonio and Maria Sponga, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Luigia and Giovanni Tonin, her sister Rita (Tranquillo), her brother Joseph, sister-in-law Maria, brother in laws Angelo, Marcello, Graziano, Guilo (Alice), Aldo, Mario, Peter, Mario and Zefferino and her nieces and nephews.

Mom loved her vegetable garden and took a great deal of pride in her flower garden. Mom always would say all she wanted was to have her family around her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Tobin, Dr. Burke and everyone at the Guelph Dialysis Centre and Hospice Wellington for the great care they took of our Mom. We would also like to thank everyone who went out of their way during the pandemic to make sure that we could FaceTime Mom during her hospital stay to make her feel at ease.

Resting at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin Street North, Guelph. Elsa’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 11:00am at Saint John the Baptist Parish, 45 Victoria Road North, Guelph with Father Valentine officiating. Burial to follow at Marymount Catholic Cemetery, 5400 Highway 6 North, Guelph.
