On Thursday, September 28, 2023 Freda Dean passed away at Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home. Freda will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Jennifer Lyon and Kirsten Dean (Heather Hong) , grandson Adrian Lyon, granddaughter Sarah Lyon (James McNicoll) and great granddaughter Alethea Lyon-McNicoll. She will also be remembered by her sister Josephine Hinton, her nieces Sandy, Carol and Debbie Hinton, her nieces Rosie Finch and Jennie Gwilliam in the UK as well as extended family members in the U.K. and Canada. Freda is predeceased by her husband Stanley Dean, son in law Eric Lyon, sisters Rose White and Clarice Kaspryszyn.
Freda was always a very creative person. Her adult work life commenced with finding an occupation as a milliner at Fortnum and Mason in Piccadilly Square in London. She was always proud to have been involved in some of the details of hats made for the Queen.
In 1956 Freda and Stan (along with her sister Josie) moved to Canada where they raised their family. She continued to enjoy creative pursuits in music and crafts such as knitting and sewing. Her creations sit in many homes reminding us all of her talents.
She was very active in the community, the church and the IODE, where she compassionately worked to make the lives of others better.
Freda was witty and funny which continued to shine through despite her struggle with dementia in which she showed great tenacity. In the middle of her confusion she was still able to make funny remarks or give sage advice.
She will be greatly missed.
Thank you to the staff of Wellington Terrace Long Term Care home. The compassionate and excellent care she received will long be remembered.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 2 - 4 p.m. at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph.
