

JENKINSON, G. Michael “Mike†G. Michael Jenkinson passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his wife and daughters, Monday, April 19, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Joan (Anderson), Kelly and husband Doug Gordon of Stratford, Karla and husband Adam McInnis of Burlington, and grandchildren Jenna and Andrew Gordon, and Jack and Sarah McInnis. Mike and Joan enjoyed a weekend getaway in October 2009 to Collingwood, where they celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary with family. Mike is survived by his beloved sister Elizabeth (Bernie Ladoucier) of Peterborough, brother Robert (Janet) of London, and mother-in-law Thelma Anderson, of Guelph. Mike lived life to the fullest. He retired in 2000 after 34 years as Assistant to the Dean of the Agricultural College at the University of Guelph. During his career he served under the tenure of five Deans of OAC. Throughout his professional career and during his retirement he was well-respected for his knowledge, leadership and forward-thinking in the field of Agriculture both locally and internationally, and was awarded for his many contributions. Mike was an adventurous world-wide traveler, an avid rower with the Guelph Rowing Club, an experienced hiker on the Bruce Trail, and a passionate gardener both at home and as a volunteer with the University of Guelph Arboretum. In winter months he enjoyed cross-country skiing on the various trails throughout the area, as well as curling with the Guelph Curling Club. Throughout his life he captured special moments through his love of photography. He joined the Guelph-Wellington Men's Club in 2002 and served as Director for two years prior to moving into the position of Second Vice President. He developed many friendships during his time with the Billies Club where he will be fondly remembered. Mike's strong commitment of faith was exemplified in his 40 year involvement at Trinity United Church. He was a gentle-man by nature with a kind and generous spirit. Mike leaves behind a legacy of optimism, perseverance, loyalty, generosity, kindness, and a strong sense of commitment to family, friends and community. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Much thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff and physicians at the Ambulatory Care Clinic at the Guelph General Hospital, who cared for him with compassion and dignity, the Community Care Access Centre, and in particular to the Bayshore Home Health nursing team. Visitation will take place at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph on Friday April 23, 2010 between 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Mike's life will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 400 Stevenson St. N., Guelph. Cremation has taken place. In the fall, there will be a private family tree dedication at the Arboretum, a spot he loved well.
