Grace Chisholm (Barry) died peacefully in Toronto on July 22, 2022. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Peter; sisters Patricia and Marg and brother Ted. Grace will always be remembered by her son Scott (Karin) and their children Andrew (Anaïs) and Liisa (Naoki), daughter Meaghan Ludas and her children Peter (Kelly, Great-Granddaughter Finley and her sisters, Kasey, Lucy and Tessa) and Ali (Nick), and her son Ted and his children (Eirinn, Clara and Jake). She will also be missed by her sisters Kay and Nan (Bob), brothers Paul (d. Marilyn) and Bill (Sandy); by her nieces and nephews, and by her many, many friends.
Grace started her nursing career at a young age and met Peter in St. Thomas where she was caring for his father. When she worked in a nursing home she always worked on Christmas day (her birthday) as most people wanted the day off. Returning to work after her children were grown, Grace began working in mental health.
Even when she was living in a care home herself, she loved to tell us she was working hard caring for the people there. She did not stay in her room during COVID!
Grace loved to be surrounded by family and friends. She loved being a Grandma and "Summer Camp" at Skye Place was the place to be for her all her grandchildren and their Guelph friends. Her house was always full of love. She was a great baker, especially her pies and cookies!
Grace was well named since she was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Always elegantly dressed, she never failed to see the funny side of life and her smile was ubiquitous and memorable. Grace and Peter's home was always a welcoming place for any kids in the neighbourhood who needed somewhere safe to go.
Grace will be missed by all who knew her. Her wonderful and caring approach to life was inspirational and will have a lasting impact for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated.
