

John Gruzleski was Emeritus Professor of Engineering at McGill University. He also served as the Director of the School of Engineering at the University of Guelph. In addition, John Gruzleski had received numerous awards, reflecting his significant contributions to the field of metallurgy and engineering:
•Synergy Award: Honored with this award by Timminco Limited for outstanding achievements in innovation and wealth creation.
•Alcan and Dofasco Awards: Received for his pioneering work on strontium modification of aluminum casting alloys.
•Engineering Alumni Award: Awarded for outstanding teaching by the faculty of engineering at McGill University.
•Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy Fellow: Recognized for his contributions to the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
•ASM International Fellow: Awarded for his work in the American Foundry Society.
These awards highlight John Gruzleski’s expertise and dedication to advancing metallurgy and engineering research. His work not only improved the industry but also contributed to the academic community through his research and teaching.
John Gruzleski is survived by his wife Olga Gruzleski and his cousins Anne-Marie Ross and Joe Gruzleski, of Guelph, brother-in-law Ivan Korec and sister-in-law Marie Korec. He also leaves behind nine nieces and nephews in Ontario and Alberta who will all miss him dearly. John Gruzleski is also survived by 11 great nieces and nephews in Ontario and Alberta.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Beatrice Gruzleski of Guelph. He will be missed dearly by relatives and friends in Canada and in the United States.
Resting at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home – Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N. in Guelph. Visitation on Wednesday November 5, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services on Thursday November 6, 2025, at 10 AM in the chapel at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home – Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph and internment to follow at Marymount Cemetery, 5400 Hwy. 6, Guelph. Following the internment a wake lunch reception will be held at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home – Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph.
