It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother Lorraine Paddock on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. Lorraine was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on May 3, 1935 and was the loving wife of the late David Bond Paddock (1988). Beloved mother of Ronald (Helen) of Cambridge, Douglas (Christine) of Calgary and Richard (Debbie) of Puslinch. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Mark (Dina), Jeff (Whitney), Jenna (Mitch), Connor, Michael, David (Kiara), Megan and Matthew and great grandchildren Jackson and Amelia. Cherished sister-in-law of Edward and Helen, Robert and Jean, Stewart and Margaret, and Coral Booth (Paddock). Predeceased by Kenneth Booth and William and Grace Harris (Paddock). She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and her close circle of friends.
Lorraine and Dave met in Saskatchewan and later married and settled in Hespeler Ontario. Their love for each other, for their three children and for helping others led them to become foster parents in 1970. It was Lorraine’s true passion to care for children, especially those in need. She was a devoted foster parent caring for a remarkable 106 children (often newborn babies) from 1970 until her retirement in 2010. She found great comfort and purpose in reuniting children with their families or with their new adoptive parents. She was the recipient of several awards during her fostering career. In 2005 she received a Government of Ontario Recognition Award for 35 years of exemplary contributions from Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario. In 2006, Lorraine received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Foster Parents Society of Ontario. In addition, she was named a Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International in appreciation of her significant contributions to improve relations among peoples of the world.
Later in life Lorraine moved to Hilltop Nursing Home in Cambridge where she became a cherished family member of the residence. There she began her next career, knitting and creating many specialty blankets, baby outfits and various stuffed toys that were works of art and were often donated to churches and hospitals for those children in need.
As a member of St. Andrews Hespeler Presbyterian Church, her faith was unwavering during the many physical challenges she encountered in her lifetime. Her strong faith-based values were the cornerstone guiding how she raised her family to be loving, compassionate and respectful of others.
The family would like to offer a very special thanks to the dedicated and compassionate staff at Hilltop Manor and the Cambridge Memorial Hospital for the loving care she received.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 2-5 p.m. at the Gilbert Macintyre & Son Funeral Home - Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph.
