Niels Hansen

Hansen, Niels Boye: With great sadness we announce the passing of Niels on August 6, 2010, after a short illness. Born in Denmark on September 6, 1940, he immigrated to Canada in 1960 where he worked at Atwood Creamery and then Canada Packers in Harriston. Beloved husband and best friend of Liz Hansen (Simpson). Loving father of Lisa Hooey, Steven Hansen and Julie Gillam (Joe). Proud grandfather of Katelyn Hooey, Eli and Ben Gillam. Survived by brother Erik and partner Sue Devost, sister-in-law Ruth Simpson, nieces and nephews Shawna Hilborn (Jamie), Todd (Micki) Simpson, Kirk (Tammy) Simpson, Scott Simpson and their children, and Niels's family in Denmark. Niels was employed at Gay Lea Foods, Guelph and Weston Branches for over 40 years. He pursued his love of photography in his retirement and operated a small picture framing business out of his home. Niels was a gentle man with a positive attitude and a sense of humor that endeared him to many. We will miss him so much. Friends will be received at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, on Saturday August 14, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 15, 2010 in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers donations to the Guelph Creative Arts Association or to a charity of ones choice would be appreciated by the family (cards are available at the funeral home 519-821-5077 or send condolences at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com).
