William George Carter

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) George Carter, on July 23, 2018. Born in Chatham, ON, on December 5, 1923. Much loved father of Karen Carter (J.P. Grant) and Kim Carter. Cherished grandfather of Angela Puddephatt, Dan Puddephatt, Christi Nagy (Karen) and Jeremy Bendl (Kim). Great-grandfather of Jackie and Noah Boileau, Olivia and Nola Puddephatt and Miller, Everett and Brielle Nagy. Great-great-grandfather of Olive Graham (Jackie). Brother of the late Nancy Westbrook (late Leslie), late John Carter (Marg) and Ruby Westgate (Ron). Predeceased by loving wife Glenna May Carter (Pound) of 55 years. Also predeceased by loving partner, Maxine Bechard of Michigan. Survived also many nieces and nephews.

Bill had a love of life, travel, adventure and an entrepreneurial spirit. His generosity was felt by both the people he loved and the causes for which he was passionate. He was a gifted story teller, writer, and avid collector. He proudly served in the Navy and was a WWII veteran. After graduating from McMaster University, he travelled to New York City and Chicago to work for 12 years. He then returned to Canada where he was a high school teacher at Campbellford District High School. In later years, he lived between Guelph, ON and Clearwater, FL. The family is grateful for the exceptional loving support and friendship provided to Bill by Jennifer Hudman Fischer (Time Well Spent).

Family and friends will be received at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 10:30-11:30 a.m., with a funeral service taking place in the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment at Carluke Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to McMaster University (Alumni) or Sunnybrook Hospital (Brain Trauma Research), would be appreciated by the family.
