

Alvaro “Super Mex” Martinez, age 70, of Waukegan passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 17, 1953 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Simon and Socorro Martinez. He grew up in Waukegan and was the track star of Waukegan Township High School. Alvaro married Judy McKinney at the age of 18 in 1971. They were married for 24 years and had 4 children whom they raised together with love. In June 2000 he married Maria Cantu Montalvo in Waukegan. Alvaro was a man of principle, honor, respect, and dignity. He was known as an extremely hard worker to not only his family, but his colleagues as well, who also became his family. As an example of his devotion and perseverance to his family, Alvaro worked more than half of his life with Roquette America. He would do whatever was necessary to provide for his family, that included the dreaded swing shift. Alvaro was athletic his entire life, he loved sports which included playing on many company teams throughout his career. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, which he custom built himself. His greatest joy above all else was his family. No matter the activity, if he was surrounded by his family, he was happy.
He was preceded in death by, his parents; Simon and Socorro Martinez; two grandchildren, Baby Jimmie and Stephanie; three brothers, Oscar, Rogelio and Simon Jr., and nephews, Enrique Jr. and Lucas.
Alvaro is survived by, his wife, Maria Martinez; four children, Deann Martinez, Alvaro Jr. (Becky) Martinez, Andrea Martinez and Kristie Martinez; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; his brother, Jose (Imelda) Martinez; three sisters, Maria (Enrique Sr.) Escobedo, Sylvia Romero and Minerva Hernandez as well as tons of nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
A visitation will be held at the Marsh Funeral Home (305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL) on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Funeral services for Alvaro will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home at 1:00 P.M. with interment to follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery.
