Benito L. Sumang Sr.

Ben was born on April 7, 1940 to Leonardo and Rosario Sumang in Gapan City, Philippines. He is the second oldest of thirteen brothers and sisters. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1967 at Mapua Institute of Technology in the Philippines. He worked as a Civil Engineer in the Philippines, Japan, and the United States until he retired on February 28, 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Corazon and five children: Benito Jr (Remileen, wife and daughter, Veronica), Joanaosaeiko, Benito II (Charmaine, wife and three daughters, Kristen, Charlize, and Jaena), Benito III (Maria, wife and son, David), and Benito IV (Harriett, wife and daughters, Olivia and Saige).

He was a devoted member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ). He served as a deacon and volunteered his time with chapel renovations and various projects. In his younger years, he was also an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing whenever he could.

A visitation for Benito will be held Monday, December 26, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031. A visitation will occur Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Highland Memorial Park, 33100 N. Hunt Club Rd.,, Libertyville, IL 60048.
