Eugene H. Latz

Eugene “Gene” H. Latz passed away at home on August 22, 2016 in Lindenhurst IL at the age of 79. He was born in Waukegan, IL on March 31, 1937 and was a long time resident of Waukegan and Lindenhurst.

Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cecile nee Zdan , his high school & college sweetheart, children Denise Guido (Greg) of Tampa, FL, Keith Latz of Gurnee, Kathy Goforth (Ron) of Naperville, Grandsons David and Kristopher Latz, Ben and Matthew Goforth, Nicholas Guido and great grandson Logan Latz. He is preceded in death by parents Frank and Anna Latz of North Chicago and brothers Ronald and Clifford.

Gene was a member of the first graduating class of North Chicago High School in 1955. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with bachelor and master degrees in Education. He also earned additional degrees. Gene’s life was in education serving as a teacher, administrator and superintendent of Zion School District 6. After retirement Gene enjoyed spending time camping, traveling and completing projects around the home. He also was a volunteer for Vista West Hospital in Lindenhurst.

The family would like to thank Vista Hospice especially Jane, Cindy, Nicole, Sandy, Vicky and dear Minnie for their care and dedication, Deacon Joe Casey for his support and friendship, and neighbors Kathy and Lisa for their daily help.

A visitation beginning at 4pm with memorial service at 6:30pm is scheduled for Friday, September 2 at Marsh Funeral Home. All are invited to attend and celebrate Gene’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Northern Illinois Food Bank are appreciated.
