James, fondly known as Jim, Jimmy, Dad, and Papa, was born to Robert and Wilma Cimfel on December 30, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois. He was a dedicated educator—moving from teacher to principal to assistant superintendent—and he touched many lives. He was blessed to be able to retire early and enjoy so much of life in his real calling: family man.
James’s deeply loving, humorous, selfless spirit is carried on by his wife, Lynn (Atkinson) Cimfel; their children, Kim Lunt, Laurie (William) Luczak, and TJ (Lainie, nee Castle) Cimfel; their seven grandchildren, Reid, Callie, Keir, Jace, Jack, James, and Mazlin; his brother, Bobby Cimfel; his sisters-in-law, Kay Niemann and Sandy Atkinson; and dear friend, Roger Lunt. Preceding him in peace were his parents, Robert and Wilma, his brother, Marty, and his brothers-in-law, Herb Niemann and George Atkinson.
James was a die-hard Cubs fan, which drove him berserk for much of his life. He loved flashlights, making lists, and hugging Lynn, especially when he was sweaty from mowing the lawn. He was a joy to be around in countless ways, and he will be profoundly missed.
To honor James’s memory, a visitation will be held at Marsh Funeral Home in Gurnee, Illinois, on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM. A service conducted by Pastor Robert Davis will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice Alliance in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
