John "Pat" Hughes

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John “Pat” Hughes, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend. On December 13, 2025, at the age of 88, he passed away peacefully in his home in Lindenhurst Illinois.

Pat was born in Waukegan Illinois on February 23, 1937, to Dorothy “Hall” and Marshall Hughes. He attended Waukegan High School, Class of 1955, and he also graduated from Lake Forest School of Management. Pat lived a life defined by kindness, hard work, and unwavering love for his family.

Pat was a longtime resident of Wildwood, Illinois, where he and his wife Patricia “Dreyer” raised their 4 children. Pat enjoyed a fulfilling career with Johnson Motors, where he was a dedicated and respected employee for many years. Outside of work, he found joy in spending time with his family and had a lifelong love for Willy's Jeeps — a passion that brought him many happy memories over the years. He restored multiple Jeeps through the years and was even published in 4-wheel drive magazines. He also loved coaching his children in baseball and softball. He was even a softball pitching coach for College of Lake County for a couple of years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia “Dreyer” Hughes, and his four children: Daniel Hughes, Michael Hughes (Robin Laycox), Thomas Hughes, and Kathleen “Hughes” Jugo (Jessie Jugo). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren Alicia, Tyson, Michael, Christopher, Jacob, Jaxson, Kyle, Chelsea, and Shannon along with ten great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Addison, Gavin, Kayden, Zane, Noah, Noemi, Colton, Ava, and Anthony, all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.

A service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL, on December 22nd, 2025 with visitation at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Funeral to follow at 12:00 pm. Graveside services will take place at Highland Memorial Park, 33100 Hunt Club Rd, Libertyville, IL. All who knew and loved him are warmly welcome to join in celebrating his life and legacy.
