

Joseph A. Pinter, 89, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Advocate Condell Medical Center. He was born in Chicago on Nov. 25, 1922, and married Jeanne (nee Hogan) on June 9, 1945 in Newport, RI. Joe, a US Marine veteran, served with the 2nd Division in the Pacific Theater in World War II, receiving a Purple Heart in combat. He retired from the Chicago Police Department in 1978 after 32 years. Joe played for the Chicago Police Department baseball team, coached baseball for Mayor Daley's Youth Foundation, and was a lifelong Cubs fan. He was beloved by his wife, Jeanne; and their children, Catherine Purcell, Elizabeth Pinter, Joan (John) Passanante, Sheila (David) Ryndak and Charles (Maureen) Pinter. Joseph was a cherished grandfather to Sean (Christine), Kevin and Chrissy Purcell, Catherine (Andy) Peterson, Beth (Brian) Hawbaker, Michael and Sarah Ryndak, Christine (Julien) Marcland, Maureen Jamieson (Andy) Greenberg and Kathleen Pinter. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate and support their successes. He was a loving great-grandfather to Jack, Finn, Caroline, Henry and Tyler; dear brother of Rudy (the late Delores); brother-in-law to Pauline Behrens (the late George), Sheila Hogan and Josephine Pinter; and beloved uncle to many. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank; and his sister, Pat. Visitation is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee, with a funeral Mass to follow. Interment will be at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, family members request donations to the Alzheimer's Association . They would also like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Sunrise of Gurnee for the loving care Joseph received in the last years of his life.
