Kurt James Epperson

Kurt James Epperson, age 60 departed this life on June 11, 2025. Born August 7, 1964, to the union of James T. and Joyce A. Epperson, he attended Waukegan public schools and was a 1982 graduate of Waukegan West High School.

Kurt was active in sports, especially football and basketball. He attended Milliken University in Decatur, Illinois and enjoyed playing college football. In 1984, he returned to Waukegan to pursue a career in HVAC and carpentry. He enjoyed 30+ years working in HVAC and carpentry for various contractors throughout Lake County.

He married his high school sweetheart, (Lisa Kajfez, Waukegan) then they later separated. From their union they had two sons, James T. Epperson (Rachel) and Evan M. Epperson (Tristan Garcia).

He was a former member of Trinity AME Church in Waukegan, IL and is survived by his mother, Joyce A. Epperson, brother, Eric S. Epperson (Dina), his sons and grandchildren (Mason and Carmen) and nieces (Hillary (Chas) Stewart and Morgan Epperson, as well a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James, paternal and maternal grandparents, and several cousins, and he will be greatly missed.
