Sending my condolences to Karen, and Mel's family on the 10th anniversary of Mel’s passing. 
I ran across this obituary while searching for an old friend Lowell Baker. I knew Mel somewhat from hanging around with Lowell. His dad used to pick up my friend Shawn and myself to go shooting at the VFW, 60 years ago. If anyone in the family sees this I would appreciate you forwarding my contact info to Lowell, as I have tried getting in touch with him for years with no success.

This came up in my email, as I wrote something in his obituary a while ago. I’m sure you all are thinking, how can it be 9 years already. First I’d like to say my condolences to Mel’s family, and second, as I wrote in my first message, if any family member sees this, I would appreciate if there is any way you could get my contact info to his brother Lowell, as we were good friends back in the day.  I’ve tried to reach him over the years, but without success. 
On a humorous note, about 1964 or 65, Lowell and I used to ride Mel’s moped around in there backyard.  I’m sure Mel never knew, as he wouldn’t have been too happy about it.

We've enjoyed our friendship with Mel and Karen for many years.   Thanks for the good memories of dinners in and out, card club, evenings on your patio by the fire pit, picnics at Ravinia, our train trip to St. Louis, etc!   Mel was a humble, kind man and won't be forgotten.  His legacy will live on through his beautiful family.   God bless you all with his comfort and peace.

 Our family met the Bakers many years ago in South Carolina. Life took us in different directions. But like family, we had a reunion every couple of years reminiscing, catching up, playing cards and enjoying each other's company once again.  
   Mel will be missed but always warmly remembered.  
 "The man who not only teaches but does what is right will be counted in the Kingdom of God."

Karen: I am so sorry for your loss. A gentle soul taken too soon. As cousins, we didn't know each other well, but my memories of Melvin are of a kind and gentle person whom family meant the world to. At mom's funeral, he spoke of us all getting together for a family reunion. I'm sorry he didn't get to see that happen. Melvin...enjoy the reunion in heaven! Say "Hi" to everyone for us.

While it is unnecessary to tell the world what a great father you were due to the fact that everybody already knows, I will say that I am grateful for the last three years that I had with you.  We were able to go hunting and fishing together, attend baseball games and hockey games, enjoy vacations to Maui and to the Grand Canyon, and spend countless hours enlightening each other to the very different lenses in which we see the world through.  While I picked on you often, it was purely out of the love that I have for you, and you were always a good sport about it and extremely good at giving it back.  I will forever miss the little quirks that made you so unique and will smile every time I think about you.  Love you so much.  Rest in peace sailor.

What can I say - Old roommate, fellow ice machine worker, sometime hunting companion, trying to get me to lead the "birds' more on the skeet range - he's was a great friend who never said an unkind word about anything or anybody! His wit, wisdom and companionship will be missed by all!

Thanks for all the wonderful memories of shoots at the gun club, flaming bananas foster from the grill, with ice machines, for being such a wonderful role model for your son, my dear son-in-law, Michael, for loving my daughter Linds like your own, for being a loving grandpa to our shared grand baby Christian, and brightening up every day with your humor and sage wisdom.  I know you're enjoying heaven as I'm sure there are lots of Max's  and duck hunting for you to enjoy!

My heart  breaks  for Karen & Christopher &  Michael and the family.  I  had the honor of  meeting  cousin Mel not  only in  Albert Lea but again in New  Jersey. I met Mel when I started working at Scotsman after Scotsman moved from Albert Lea to Vernon Hills. He was a great guy. I know his family was always very important to him.  We missed him at Scotsman after he "retired" and we will miss him even more now. I know he's up in Heaven checking out all of the best fishing spots with his buddy, Bob Majerus.  My prayers are with the Baker family and his many friends.

Working with Mel for twenty years, I found an honest, caring, and hard working man that I greatly respected. But it was our times together at the trap range and away from work that introduced me to the fun loving hunter, fisherman, and family man that I enjoyed being with. While I will miss him, I have no doubt that Mel is in a better place. I wish Karen and the family peace and strength in dealing with their loss.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Karen Christopher and Michael and families. We will always remember our fun times with Mel playing cards and times we spent in A.L. He will be greatly missed.Love and prayers Kenny and Donna

Mel became my close friend about 6 years ago (or so).  We have had special moments, along with his wife and family.  I will miss him so much!  But God must have needed him more than all of us here on earth.  Rest in Peace, Mel

A late comer to that Carling Lake crew it nevertheless became the hi light of every year to plan with Mel, my Brother Bob and spend time with Karen, Christopher, Michael, Lindsey and then Christian, Adam and Nena on both ends of the trip. Mel was more of a brother than a friend and he leaves a big hole in my heart. His honesty, humility and of course, sense of humor are the things I will cherish!  Till we meet again at the Mel and Bob cabin on "the lake", fair sailing and a following wind!

Even though I know you are with the Lord and no longer in pain, I selfishly want you here. I will miss our dinner dates, visiting by the fire, your stories, your wisdom, your hugs, your smiling face, but most of all I will miss watching you and Christian playing and pointing to each other. You were my second father, and there's a place in my heart that will never heal. I am so grateful that we became as close as we did in only 8 years, and am thankful that we now have a special angel to watch over our family, especially our little Christian boy. I miss you... the world has lost a great man. I love you always, and will see you again.

Mel was my next door neighbor for 17 and our patio talks will be missed..good bye my friend

Wherever 2 or more hunters are gathered, there will be talking smart around the campfire going on.

I worked with Mel for nearly 30 years and found him to be more than a fellow employee. He was a fine man, one that helped me in many ways. I was lucky to have known him. I am sad that he is gone.
