Nancy Katherine Bensinger Nee Mitchell, a beacon of love and service, passed away at her residence on April 7, 2024, after a valiant fight with cancer. Born on November 17, 1941, in Lake Forest, she lived a life marked by dedication, not only to her family but also to her community.
Nancy's professional journey at the College of Lake County culminated in her retirement after having significantly contributed as the executive assistant to both the DIrector of Nursing Education and later the Dean of Business Division. Her commitment extended beyond her professional life into her passionate involvement with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, T-ball, Little League, and softball, enriching her children's early years with her supportive presence.
Her spiritual life was equally rich and devoted. Nancy was an integral part of her church community at St. Patrick's (St. Brigid's), where she engaged in numerous groups and activities, including prayer shawl ministry, Shamrocks (senior group), small faith group, bible study, grief support, mentoring youth, and teaching religious education. These endeavors underscored her belief in the power of faith and community support.
Nancy was a heartwarming embodiment of generosity and love, deeply dedicated to her husband, children and grandchildren. Her absence will leave an indelible void in the hearts of those who knew her. Nancy's loving legacy is carried on by her children: Barbara (Joseph Pegura), William (Jennifer) Bensinger, and Katherine (Jason Dordick). She is also survived by her eight wonderful grandchildren, Jennifer (Jamie Huff), Luke Bensinger, Lora Bensinger, Lexi Bensinger, Logan Bensinger, Kaitlyn Goldstein, Meghan Goldstein, Makenzie Dordick, and two amazing great-grandchildren Benjamin Pletcher, and Kira Huff. She is also survived by her siblings: Larry (Peggy) Mitchell, Judy (Robert Andrus), and brother-in-law Richard (Terri) Bensinger, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings Virginia Butler, Harry Mitchell and Claudia Reh.
Her reunion with her beloved husband of 45 years, Robert J Bensinger, who preceded her in death, remind us of the cycle of life and love that transcends physical boundaries.
In memory of Nancy's enduring spirit and generosity, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Tunnel to Towers as an extension of her legacy of kindness and service.
