Oscar was born on April 15, 1935, to Baudilio Otero and Clotilde Torres in Villalba, Puerto Rico. In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. During a leave to attend his sister’s wedding, in Puerto Rico, he met the love of his life, Carmen Elia Fuentes. Oscar proudly served his country and was honorably discharged in 1956.
On January 6, 1960, Oscar moved to Waukegan to be closer to his sisters and their families. Oscar and Carmen were married on October 28th, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Together they raised three wonderful children.
Oscar worked as a Laboratory Technician for 37 years at Abbott Laboratories. A life-long learner, he would spend his evenings working on projects to make the family home more comfortable, from finishing the basement to building the garage from the ground up. There was nothing he couldn’t build or fix on his own. He was relentlessly determined to complete any task.
Oscar was very passionate and dedicated to his community through his volunteer work at; PADS of Lake County, and various Food Pantries. He briefly taught CCD at St. Joseph and would always volunteer at church to fix anything that needed a little maintenance. During his down time, he could often be found bowling, fishing, and he loved going to the casino.
Oscar is survived by his wife of 64 years Carmen Elia Torres; children Beatriz (Angel) Rodriguez, Noelia Torres, and Elliot Torres; grandchildren Guilliano Rodriguez, Naiara Camille Rodriguez; great-grandchildren Nazaré Rodriguez, Mekkah Rodriguez, and Judeah Rodriguez; one brother; and loving family friends; Liza Quiñones, Kendelle Perez, and Xiomara Hernandez.
He also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Baudilio Otero and Clotilde Torres; his brother Rene Torres and sisters Angelita Rivera and Miriam Luna; family fur babies; Maxwell, King, Joaquin, and Yuko.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the private caregivers: Rico Oporto, Melca, and Jude Villegas. We are also grateful to Suncrest Hospice (Beverly, Jimena, Sara, Aislyn, Chaplain Steve, and Social Worker Erin).
