Ronald L. Sumners

Ronald L.Sumners, 64, of Wadsworth, passed away September 8, 2012, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Ron enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam era and was proud to be a nuclear submariner. After his discharge from the navy he worked at the Zion nuclear plant until it closed in 1998. He then combined his love of travel with his computer skills and worked as a computer software trainer until he retired in 2010. Ron leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 42 years, Kathy; three children, Andrew of Chicago, Nathaniel of Lutz, Florida, and Gillian (Peter) Byron of Alden, Michigan; two grandchildren, Jason Boncodin and Joy Sumners of Waukegan; a brother, John, of Tampa, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Philip, and his parents, Norwood and Mary Sumners. Services will be at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Robert F. Whitworth of Meadow Ridge Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will be at Northshore Cemetery.
