

Terrence N. "Monk" Tiernan, age 74, from Waukegan, IL. Passed away July 19, 2012, Duluth MN. He is survived by his wife of 24 years Margery (Brecheisen) Tiernan; his son, Michael (Myrta) Tiernan; and grandchildren, Bryan and James Tiernan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Tiernan and Magdalen Ditter; his first wife, Kathleen; his brother, James Tiernan; his sister, Patricia; and his stepfather, Richard Ditter. Terry was born May 9th, 1938 in Waukegan, Illinois. After graduating from Waukegan High School, he joined the Marine Corp in 1956, where he served for three years and wrestled on the USMC team. He then attended the University of Illinois in Champaign and was a wrestler there. Terry was a computer systems analyst for most of his career working at Outboard Marine Corporation, Snap On Tools, and Brunswick Corporation. He also owned or partnered in local businesses Action Office, TnT's Tap, and Badger Egg. Terry retired from civil service at USMEPCOM as Director of Information Management in 2002. He was a member of the Lake County Marine Corp League and a founding member of The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Automobile Racing and Beer Drinking in America. Above all Terry loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, attending auto races, fishing, restoring his 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, cooking, wintering in Ft. Myers, Florida, and the occasional cocktail. Terry had two hole in ones while golfing. He had a quick wit, loved telling funny stories, and he had plenty of them. Terry's life will be celebrated Thursday, July 26 from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 North Cemetery Road, Gurnee followed by a memorial service 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) Foundation.
