Walter L. Roberts, 69, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 12, 2015, after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at Advocate Condell Medical Center surrounded by his family. Walter was born on March 20, 1945 to Ronald Reed and Alice Roberts in Meadville, PA. He grew up in Meadville, graduating from Meadville High School in 1963 and Allegany College in 1967. While at Meadville High School, he lettered in track, cross-country and basketball. He continued his basketball career at Allegany College where he graduated with a BS degree. He spent the next 30 years working in the powder coating industry. He retired from S&C Electric at age 52 to begin his second career as a woodworking crafter, running the home-based business Aw Shucks. He loved working with wood and doing craft shows. Through crafting he met many people with whom he became friends. In his spare time he loved to fish, especially with his grandson, Micah; he never turned down the chance to pick up his fishing pole and head to the water. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Amy (Snowden), and his daughter Neva (Steven) Cosmos, their children Micah and Nina of Wildwood, IL and his son David (Rachel), and their children Lele and Ellie of Seattle, WA. His parents, his sister and his son Michael preceded him in death. Walter loved his family and friends, but most of all he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We rejoice that he is now with Jesus in heaven, whole and pain free. Life Celebration Service will be held on March 20th at Grace Community Bible Church located at 15 Commerce Drive, Grayslake, IL. Visitation will be from 3-7PM with the Life Celebration Service at 7:00PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the family which will be used to support two of Walter's favorite causes. Marsh Funeral Home is serving the family.
