William O Downie

William O. Downie, 77, of Wadsworth, IL passed away September 24, 2011. He was born in Waukegan, IL on June 1, 1934; Graduated from Waukegan High School and was in the Naval Reserve. Abbott Retiree Club, AARP, Moose Club, Including the Moose Pool League. Worked for Millwright, Retired from Johnson Motors with 30 years and Abbott Laboratories after 10 years. Loved to Play Golf, Loved working in his garden, Walked at Gurnee Mills every day for 17 years with the Gurnee Mills Walking Club. Bill was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Survived by Wife of 40 years, Lodeen (Neuschaefer) Downie; Children: Debra (Randy, United States Air Force Major, Retired) Decker, Colorado Springs, CO; Vicki (David) Sturino, El Paso, TX and Scott Petersen, Kenosha, WI. Predeceased by daughters in infancy: Cindy Lee Downie and Laurie Jean Downie. Grandchildren: April Petix of Colorado Spring, CO, Rebekah Decker of Colorado Springs, CO, Angela (Gilbert) Merz of San Antonio, TX; Nicole Sturino of El Paso, TX; Melissa (Sam) Hensley of Horizon City, TX; Cindy (Sam) Kranz of Rock Springs, WY and David (Samantha) Sturino, both members of the United States Air Force, Dover, DE. Predeceased by grandson in infancy: Matthew Decker and 16 living Great Grand Children and 2 who predeceased him. Sister, Denise Biarnesen and nieces, Dawn (Bob) Deason of Grayslake and Bobbi (Jim) Siver of Kenosha and nephew, Mike (Vicki) Biarnesen of Gurnee. Bill is also survived by their loving cat, Bootsy. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Marsh Funeral Home at 305 North Cemetery Road, Gurnee and a Mass will be held at St. Patricks Catholic Church 15000 Wadsworth Road, Wadsworth at 9:30 AM on Thursday, September 29 2011, with Father Fred Pesek presiding. There will be a visitation beginning 8:30 AM until the time of the Mass. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the American Cancer Society in Bill's name.
