I was deeply saddened to learn of Abe's passing.  He was our Dean for three of my four years at Stern Undergraduate (1964 - 1968) and I was a member of his Dean's Advisory Council.  I shared many happy times with Abe at alumni events over the years; he will be greatly missed.

So sorry to hear about Mr. Gitlow's passing. He came to my pharmacy for years and was always such a nice man. He always remembered my name and joked around and cut up. He will be missed. God bless his family hope you all find comfort during this difficult time.

The Nyman family expresses condolences to the Gitlow family.  Dr Gitlow was admired and respected by all of us.  We enjoyed many dinners in South Florida together.  It was very exciting when Morty who passed away Dec 2012, re-connected with Abe, his former professor several years ago at an NYU event.  Abe was eager to help the next generation and encourage them in the quest for higher education. He will be missed but there must be a great alumni party in heaven for him.

I am a neighbor.and am on the 9th floor of Washington Square Village. enjoyed my occasional conversations and smiles. He was a very special gentleman.

Condolences to the Gitlow family. I was a young Assistant Dean at GBA in the mid 70's and got to know Abe well. He was a giant in the development of what is now the Stern School. What I didn't know was his service in World War II - another member of the Greatest Generation nor about his prolific authorship. I look forward to reading his latest book when it is published later this year.

We would periodically see Dr.Gitlow at the Avanti Café in Miami Beach. Our regret is that we did not learn more about his time in the Army Air Force in New Guinea.He told us he wrote for the Stars and Stripes.

Dean Gitlow will always be fondly remembered. I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to "work" with him in the 80s as a young college student, attending Dean's luncheons as a member of the Inter-Club Council. Through the years, seeing him at a Stern School alumni event always put a smile on my face; I would patiently wait for an opportunity to speak with him, even if only for a few moments. My sincere condolences to his family and to the entire NYU community.

I will always remember how proud his father Sam was when Abe got his PHD.  Abe  and his family have a special place in my heart.  I knew them all my life since my brother was born in his parents home!!  Always there when you needed advice. A kind and generous man who will be remembered and missed always. Condolences to the family and Yvette.

We are so sorry to hear of the loss of this wonderful man. I first knew the Gitlow family as a child . My parents and grandmother were members of the Old Nyack Turnpike synagogue. 52 years later, met Abe when he was a patient in Florida. I had just arranged for him to meet a junior high classmate, Jay Goldstein. Unfortunately, the reunion of the Spring Valley Junior High 7th grade "rapid Advance Class" was not to be. Jay passed away 6 weeks ago. Please send condolences to all the Gitlows from the Levy and Turoff families. It was an honor to know him.

I just happen to be up at one am. browsing obituaries.  Gee, why does this name sound familiar? Reading further, I realized he was my dean at NYU as a 1980 graduate of the Stern School.  He was a good man and we should all be as lucky to live as long as he did.  I also never knew he was a World War Two veteran of the Army Air Corps as my father was.  Rest in Peace Sir.

I had the honor to work for Dean Gitlow at the Tisch School of Business back in the mid to late 1970's.  What an extraordinary man he was...distinguished, accomplished and always professional. I always tell people he was the first boss I ever had upon graduating college and the best boss I ever had. I am sorry to hear of his passing and my most sincere condolences to his sons and the rest of the family.

A fond and respectful farewell to our mother's dear cousin Abe. He was beloved in our family, always kind, always supportive. Condolences to his sons and their families.

I was fortunate to have Professor Gitlow as a teacher at NYU School of Commerce. A few years ago I sent Professor Gitlow a letter via NYU. He responded. My wife and I spent a nice afternoon with him at his Miami apartment. It was a pleasure talking with him about what I had learned in his class. I graduated NYU Commerce in 1959

Another life has run its course.  The group of my parents' friends who met in Rockland long ago and stayed together, is forever shrinking.  I will remember Abe as someone of small stature with an immense presence, and grand oratory skills.  I recall a story he told... While working on a new book, he accidently hit the delete button, chapters of his work now vanished forever.  As usual, without fuss, he simply started over, pressing onward again with his usual vigor-- a good lesson for us all.

I just saw Abe last Friday, July 11th at a lunch graciously hosted by John & Ilsse Lang.  We were all shocked by how diminished he looked. He arrived uncharacteristically late, guided gently by his devoted caretaker Madriana-- the trip to be with his friends had required all his strength just to walk slowly to and from his car.  During lunch he had difficulty hearing the conversation, telling us he was soon to be fitted for hearing aids.  With his wry sense of humor intact, he said he looked forward to finally hearing the truth from people.
