

Abraham Leo Gitlow, 95, of Miami Beach, FL, passed away at NY University Hospital on July 15, 2014. Born in the Bronx, NY to Samuel and Esther Gitlow, he lived in NY City and Spring Valley, NY until moving to Miami Beach in 1982.
Dr. Gitlow served in the Air Force during WWII from 1943-1945. He received a Ph.D. from Columbia University in Economics and Anthropology. He was a Dean at NY University Stern School of Business from 1965 until his retirement in 1985. He had a chair established in his honor at the NYU Stern School of Business, and recently completed his 15th book, which is scheduled to be published in October. His passions were research and writing and was known for his excellence as a teacher and dean.
Dr. Gitlow was the beloved husband for 59 years to the late Beatrice May Alpert Gitlow; loving father of Allan Gitlow (Deanna) of Woodland Park, NJ and Howard Gitlow (Shelly) of Miami, FL; cherished grandfather of Jessica Jacobs (Steven), Elissa Gitlow (Jason Hecker) and Ali Gitlow (Nick Shea); devoted great grandfather of Maren and Nathan Jacobs and Ian Gitlow-Hecker.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Friday at Gutterman-Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, 402 Park St., Hackensack, NJ 07601. Interment to follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus. Memorial donations may be made in Abraham Gitlow’s name to the NYU Stern School of Business.
